Premiere for final year TVT student
 Posted on May 21, 2012

Diego Torres, final year student, studying the BSc HonsTelevision and Video Technology presented his short film ‘Delusion’ to the prestigious Cinematique Student Film Festival (held 30 and 31 March) at the BFI IMAX in London.

“There was quite a lot of competition with 42 students from 23 different institutions. I was amazed that most of the participants had just used a DSLR (digital single lens camera) and achieved technically very nice depth of field pictures; although supported by a technical film crew.

Whereas it was just me – I used a Sony Z1 for the filming and dealt with the lighting and sound and became my own film crew!

‘The project took around four months to film; using seven DV tapes of footage to finalisation. The lighting was the most difficult task.

 Delusion
Synopsis – Delusion is a short film about a man who is stuck in the routine of life and in himself, however, something happens to change his miserable life. This film allows you to make you think and draw your own conclusions.

“What I enjoyed most about the degree in Television and Video Technology is the ability to put into practice what I have learned from lectures, availability of software (Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects and Nuke) and hardware, as well as the technical workshops to include electronics, audio and video signals.

The most difficult task is studying in another country; writing assignments, essays and the dissertation in the final year. However, in my case, it has been beneficial as it has been a good way of improving my English skills.

Having gained the technical knowledge and understanding the applications helps me to deal with all aspects of the technical requirements behind film- making.

I feel more confident in my subject area and future profession. Supported with the knowledge and experience I have gained, I want to make myself part of this fantastic world as a professional in the media industry.”
